Friday 11th, May 2012 / 23:55 Written by

31 years ago on May 11th, the world lost Robert “Bob” Marleyan artist whose work was strongly influenced by ideas of Haile Selassie I, last Emperor of Ethiopia and one of the founding fathers of the Organisation of African Unity. Today Marley would have reached the age of 67. His music still inspires millions.

Until the colour of a man’s skin is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes  – me say war. That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all, without regard to race  – dis a war. (Bob Marley and the Wailers: “Rastaman Vibrations” 1976)

Note: _Check ya Mziki: … is a fresh series on eufrika.org to celebrate and share new and/or influential moments in music.
