Death of President Mutharika shakes Malawi
Bingu wa Mutharika, president of the Republic of Malawi, has died on thursday at the age of 78. Official sources in Malawi have confirmed a cardiac attack as cause of death. “People are very, very anxious”, describes malawian lawyer John Makhwawa of the Malawi Law Society the atmosphere in the country. “According to the Malawi constitution, the person who is in charge right now – the only person who can make lawful and binding conditions – is the vice-president”, he is cited in an article for the BBC.
