Football and civil war in Ivory Coast

While a civil war was devastating his home country Ivory Coast, football super star Didier Drogba was at the very height of his career. Former Manchestor United player Eric Cantona presents famous footballers’ efforts for political change via social consciousness. In this episode of Football Rebels he throws a light on Drogba’s efforts during the civil war in his home country.

According to Al Jazeera, Drogba said:

I left Cote d’Ivoire with a certain image: It was beautiful, its streets were lovely, there was greenery everywhere and people were happy. And when I came back a few years later, I saw a real change. That’s when I started asking myself questions.
