Tanzania to host important International Fishery Conference
In cooperation with the University of Dar es Salaam, the International Institute of Fisheries Economics & Trade (IIFET) will hold their annual conference in Tanzania’s Dar es Salaam. Under the title Visible Possibilities: The Economics of Sustainable Fisheries, Aquaculture and Seafood Trade the conference will take place from 16-20 July 2012.
This year’s international fisheries conference will concentrate on hidden possibilities of fisheries all around the world with special attention on African waters. Since Tanzanian waters include not only the species rich coastal waters of the Indian Ocean but also parts of Africa’s three largest lakes Tanganyika, Victoria and Malawi, it is the perfect location for this year’s conference. The waters not only in Tanzania but in many other parts of Africa involve enormous possibilities for fishing activities.
Especially aspects such as productivity, profitability and sustainability of fisheries in Africa will be part of the conference. Here attention will be paid on possibilities of fisheries and aquacultures to contribute their part to the fight against poverty. Especially the further development of the so-called aquacultures and opportunities for the future food supply particularly in African countries is going to be discussed.
The conference will be sponsored among others by USAID, NEPAD, The World Bank and WWF.
